 Pencoed. 13. Tycroes. 8
This W.R.U. Division 2 Cup match never really scaled the heights but was well contested throughout. The visitors opened the scoring approaching the ten minute mark with a short range penalty goal from Aled Rees Jones. Pencoed were next on the scoresheet, 2nd row forward Luke Hall breaking into the Tycroes half and delivering a well timed pass to left wing Sam Hayman who needs no second invitation to the try line, the young Hayman racing over wide out.Territorially the home side were edging matters playing into the considerable wind, however Pencoed then lost influential No.8 Ashley Bissett through injury to be replaced by the utility skills of Tom Geere. Geere was soon in the thick of the action and one of several forwards to handle for hooker  Zac Taylor to score what was a fitting try, Taylor captaining the side for the first time. Approaching half time Tycroes pressured the Pencoed try line with a number of scrummages, the home pack absorbing the pressure to eventually turn possession over to clear their lines.
Tycroes threatened down both flanks early in the half, firstly Jordan Bissett got across to make a fine covering tackle before 2nd row Lewis Bowen also covered the opposite touchline to make a tackle any back row forward would be proud of. The competitive nature of experienced forward Ricky Somers enhanced the young home packs efforts and Pencoed pressed for a score with Rhys Clarke just held up short. The second half was being punctuated with a series of yellow cards and then a "red "for the visitors which effectively ended their hopes of winning the match with a 10 point deficit. To their credit and with the last play of the match Callum Morris went over in the corner. Pencoed deserved their 13-8 victory having played into the strong wind during a first half which lasted 55 minutes plus ! Young flankers Jamie Burton and Max Phillips were an industrious pair  in the Pencoed pack effort, however the Pencoed supporters Man of the match award deservedly went to Zac Taylor. On Saturday Pencoed host unbeaten Builth Wells, 2.30pm k.off.
